• The Balance Between Intention and Surrender

The Balance Between Intention and Surrender

The balance between intention and surrender is a delicate one. Intention is getting clear on what we want and surrender is trusting in the best outcome. On the one hand, if you over intend, you’re trying to make things happen; on the other, if you over surrender, then you’re lazy, lethargic, and you’ll make a minimal effort. It’s a bit of a razor’s edge, which is why I think we have to lay down the very thing we’ve used our whole life to get what we want, for something greater to occur. It sounds easy enough until we have to put it into practice.

If you’re familiar with my work, by now you’ve heard me say a thousand times that to create something out of nothing, we need to match a clear intention with an elevated emotion. But that’s just the beginning. Next, we need to remain in the energy of that creation—day in and day out. (This is where our meditation practice comes into play.) Then, we surrender the how of how our creation shows up. This means we’re not only trusting a greater mind is organizing our creation in a way that’s right for us, but we allow it to unfold in a new and different way than what we had previously planned or anticipated. Think about it—if you knew what to do you probably would have done it already. That’s called the known.

But the moment we start to feel frustrated, impatient, angry, or resentful, however, we’ve disconnected from the energy of our future, and more than likely it’s because we’re trying to force, control, predict or manipulate outcomes. Why does this happen? Because those emotions cause us to feel separate from our creation; thus, we’re not surrendering, allowing and trusting in this greater mind. Instead we’re approaching creation as matter trying to change matter, rather than our energy organizing matter. If you are trying to control and predict when and how it should happen, then you’re back in the known. That’s because your prediction is more than likely you ‘thinking’ about some known possibility from your memory of the past and trying to forecast that outcome into the future.

You may find yourself saying, “But I do the work every day and still nothing happens!” If you’re saying that, then you’re not trusting; you’re waiting for something outside of you to make that feeling of separation or lack change how you’re feeling inside of you. That’s called separation. You have to remember that because matter is the slowest frequency, it may take time for the external conditions in your life to come into alignment with your inner vision. Again, this is why we do the work every day—to stay in the energy of our creation. That’s not to say it’s easy, otherwise everyone would be doing it.

An analogy I often like to use is that practicing this work, and learning to surrender and trust, is a lot like learning to snowboard. When you strap your boots to your board for the first time, you’re hyper focused on your balance. You’re hypervigilant about your form, your turns, the position of your body over the board, and so on. As a result, you expend an unnecessary amount of energy. In this regard, your mind and body are separate, when in fact what you’re trying to do is make your mind and body one. In essence, you are trying to make your body do what your mind is thinking.

As a beginner snowboarder, you’re going to be frustrated, you’re going to fall (a lot), you’re going to be sore, and in the midst of the experience you’re probably going to question whether you’re ever going to be able to glide down the mountain with ease and grace. With enough practice, however, you stop trying to think like a snowboarder, and you become a snowboarder. The habitual practice of snowboarding then becomes the state of being, and thus you can finally relax into it. Now, what was once a practice becomes a joy—something you look forward to. As you trust yourself more and more, because you’re mind and body are working in unison, you no longer have to try to work as hard, it requires less effort and you are able to better manage your energy. This not only goes for snowboarding, but for creating our reality.

The creative process then is not about hoping, wishing, waiting, wanting, trying or looking—hope is a beggar. It’s about embodying and becoming your creation. We do this first internally in our meditations by merging with the energy of our future, then by remaining in that energy throughout our day. The more we remain in this energy, the more we memorize it until it becomes a new state of being. When it has become your state of being, then you can finally get out of your own way, which ultimately makes trusting, surrendering and allowing easier and more natural. This is when you have memorized the thoughts and emotions in your mind and body, causing you to feel like your creation has already happened.

If you’re not making a concerted effort to stay in the energy of your creation throughout your day, it’s the same as eating an organic breakfast, then spending the rest of the day eating junk food. And what’s the point of that if you’re trying to get healthy? The same goes for everything we’re creating in our life. Why not then, for today, pretend your future has already happened? After all, if you’ve been doing the work you’ve already experienced it enough times in the quantum field. Who knows…you might just find your future finding you.

I would guess when the intention is or regarding matter in some form or another, the process will go on for what seems like forever. Just a guess but if the intention is about obtaining a million dollars…things may get altered even though we might be clear with our intention and certainly have heightened emotions…not quite the same as healing a disease, trauma, or diagnosis.. Just thinking, not saying I’m correct.

Thanks to Dr. Joe for embodying his message of explaining this in a magical way because when you look at others in his industry, they weave a powerful message of equal importance that otherwise could have been wasted had he not put the time in to word it. Very eloquently put Dr. Joe. With no blame or judgement to the people who aren’t getting it. Patience is a super power!

Thank you so much for this Dr. Joe. Wednesday night I was feeling very uneasy and a little afraid as I had to spend the night alone in my house which is out in the country side. My son and husband were away. As I drove into the driveway and the gates closed behind me I could feel fear come over me. I didn’t sleep well and kept listening for noise when I woke. Next day I went about my business not even thinking about how I had felt the night before. I was on a day off and had an envelope to deliver to the clinic I work in. I parked my car a little away as I couldn’t park closer. As I walked quite fast I passed a bus stop where a young man about 22 was standing. He stood in front of me and spat at me. My heart pounded and I started to run, terrified he was coming after me and waiting to be hit on my head from behind. However, he hadn’t moved from the bus stop. It was only later I realized I had brought this event into my experience by the way I had been feeling afraid the night before.
It was something unwanted, but showed how powerfully I can manifest. So the amazing things I think and feel for my life are surely on the way!

Thank you Dr. Joe. I now truly understand why I did not get the results that I wanted or intended. Your article/explanation can be regarded as a sign from the Universal Consciousness literally saying, “Look, chill, calm down, when you believe it, you will see it.” The difference between wishing, hoping, waiting for, and surrender. Whatever will be,,will be, and it will be the best option for you. “I will choose and deliver what is best for you.” Many thanks Dr. Joe.

I find myself in exactly that position, wanting something so much, wanting to be something so much, that the wanting is the driving force, instead of the *being*. I must meditate, paint and draw, and *be* the artist that I now *want* to be, I must surrender in the practice of being. Thereby — in your words here — embodying, and always already becoming the creation of a life work.
    Thank you.

I am just starting a meditation or mindfulness practice to get rid of my IBS/stomach stress I have had for 20+ years. Your explanations on intention and surrender toward a final quantum change are extremely helpful, as well as, your analogy to snow boarding. I have always thought there shourld be a black or white definitive solution to my problems, but the working of the mind and body are complicated and extremely integrated and will not take time and much effort/intention and letting go or surrender with in a fine range of balance. Everyone in life wants simple solutions, but they don not really exist within the quantum universe. Your blog has given me the confidence, fortitude and understanding to finally achieve what I want and live a more peaceful and rewarding life in my retirement.

Your words and analogy resonate with me. I was a Spanish and English language professor for 40 years. As students begin to learn a language, they are super vigilant of the grammatical rules, feminine/masculine agreement in Spanish, etc. By the time they get to the advanced level of their language acquisition, they are feeling the language. They sense when something is incorrect. They may no longer remember the rules but they know when something is right or wrong. I always tried to convey that to my studnets so they wouldn’t get frustrated with the language-learning process.

I spent my morning today contacting colleagues around the world, who I did not know even 12 months ago on a project that did not exist 12 months ago and advancing our work, as if I had been doing this all my life! there is no way I could have anticipated how all of this would come about. But how, oh how, to help someone else. Is it possible to manifest the ability to heal powerfully enough to heal him? He feels estranged from the meditations. Will not learn to do them. Cannot believe. I know that so much in my life has already manifested. Can I manifest the ability to teach him? Yes. Of course, that is it. Writing this down has helped me see the next step. Not trying to control or manipulate the outcome, but be able to offer clearly and in a way that he can understand. Thank you.

      Dear Ann
Your desperation about “him” is a hugh mirror. If only HE could understand, than I could be happy…
Become happy and free first yourself, this is the greatest help. Honor “him” and his karma and his destiny be giving freedom and trust. He will come and ask himself what was so transformative for you if you start being free and happy and independent from his mood and state. Wanting to teach him without being asked only results resistance.
I speak from years of deperation and now having let go…it worked!
      All the best

I am just beginning this journey with you. I was given your book “Becoming Superhuman” for Christmas and I am amazed by how my life has already been transformed by your teachings. I boarded the plane in Oakland and started reading. I was immediately mesmerized and on high alert feeling as though at last what I longed for most at been placed in hands. I felt like a woman possessed…I could not put the book down. Please don’t disturb me with ” Would you like a drink or a snack” I thought as the flight attendant interjected…I am in the midst of a life-changing experience here! As I read, I felt like someone who had been without sustenance for so long, I had forgotten my hunger…suddenly I found myself at the feast plied with luxurious food and libation….since that flight, day after day, I have rushed home, attended to the necessary and immersed myself in its pages taking in the information and practicing the meditations….my life has become a hot mess (in a good way) as the old behaviors begins to fall away. This once highly organized, detail-oriented woman, who can think globally and get the lead out has fallen off the cliff laughing…I’m late for work(pretty much unheard off) because I can’t get out of bed until I have planned my day & how I’m going to show up in it….When I do finally make it out of bed…I turn on inspiring music and if a piece of music really moves me I find myself abandoning whatever task I’m engaged in and start dancing….I have moments when I am moved to tears….my heart has been blasted open….I am becoming aware of the lies I have believe that have kept me in an emotional coma for years. Early in life, I fell prey to the siren song of the nay sayers. I believed them when they said “Who do you think you are?” ….It is much later in life now and no more time to waste! I am so grateful to you, Joe for giving me the knowledge and the tools to reclaim my life. Thank you for your passion and your generosity.

“As I get up this morning, I put on Love as a garment- translucent, not readily seen by the eye, next to my skin it touches every part of me. I am cloaked in awareness. I feel loved and loving, supported and supportive. I am joy. I am you and you are me. I am invincible and carefree. I delight in this new day and with the innocence and glee of a child, I wonder what awaits me.” Blessings to everyone.

Makes such good sense. Very similar to books that I have studied for years on metaphysics. Authors such as Ernest Holmes, Emmett Fox, etc also wrote about similar ideas. Today’s world is much more receptive to this way of thinking and Dr. Dispenza writes in a scientific manner that alot of people can relate to and then more easily accept the theories as presented. Thank you Dr. Dispenza for devoting your time and energy to this enlightenment.

Hello all dear beings of light geniuses. – one in all – all in One.
I was/am blessed to have experienced DR JD’s progressive workshop in London last year and it continues to be life-changing for me. What I have learned from Dr JD weaves in with my spiritual beliefs and puts contemporary language on what the evolved souls, awakened, enlightened souls/sages/spiritual masters/yogis from the east experienced for millennia and experience today.I have witnessed my spiritual master embodiment of the Divine; She is totally limitless and is pure love and lives in her body in the experience of no separation ie Oneness. So I’ve experienced Her so, therefore, believe in higher intelligence and body and mind without limits – also my brain understands Her teachings but I have not experienced fully the experiences of Oneness and pure love. ( maybe tiny tastes of it whilst engaged in chanting and singing bhajans when the energy frequency is clearly raised or in Her company but it doesn’t last long) All negative habits come back to haunt me!. Through reading DR ~JD’s books and listening to his discourses on the internet and at his London progressive workshop I now understand why negative habits keep returning ( much less so now!! yay! since I’ve been meditating with DR JD cd’s) I 100% believe I and others can tap into our limitless potential, higher intelligence, raise energy, heal self-mind and body and create futures. In fact, I am doing this daily – progressed from kindergarten to primary and know I continue to get closer to the goal of experiencing for sure that I am limitless and a byproduct being I am self-healing my body and mind and some – yeh creating future which already exists. I know this now. I love how Dr JD says it is time to move from knowing this stuff to “KNOWING HOW”. Im eternally grateful and so very enthusiastic to participate in the longer retreats ( not called advanced anymore) Can anyone inform me if a venue has been found, confirmed and booked by Dr. JD and his team for a longer retreat in UK 2018 pretty please.
Love peace and joy vibes winging their way to you Joe all beautiful souls from ciara xx

Thanks for the analogy about snowboarding – it really helped. I remember when I was learning I felt really frustrated but when I just relaxed into the motion, trusting and letting go, it was effortless and – as you say, I joy to feel at one with the movement, in the moment. I could enjoy the beautiful scenery, then too 🙂 I would have learned a lot quicker, if I had relaxed earlier.

Dr. Joe, you helped me correct my thinking. You have done good for many since your days in Georgia at Life. Congrats!!

It is so easy to forget that if when do not act as a barrier, everything is happening for the best of all. I have to remember that so often. I just have to get off the road.

Thanks for the article and reminders. I have been to a course and left things for a while and now have been really puting in the time with the breathwork and meditation. Life has always gone well for me and my intentions for freeing my body are about fear and poverty consciousness as I want to move to a higher plane on all these matters. So far I seem to be having to manage a lot of negatives from the outside world. I can do it ok but I wonder if I am on the right track? I am aware this could be clearing but does not feel like that!
