The Reason Why Kindness Makes Us Happy

I believe a small group of people with compassion and kindness in their hearts can change the world, after all, that’s why we do the work we do. There’s a simple equation that says when you feel better, you treat other people better, and this produces a ripple effect that spreads out to everyone around you. One act of kindness is like dropping a pebble in a pond—the ripple spreads out to everyone and everything around you. The next thing you know, some lily pad in the far corner of the pond gets an uplifting shake and wiggle and it [...]

Through Initiation Comes Mastery

When Grant Achatz was a young boy, one if his uncles often played pranks on him, and Grant could never tell if he was being serious or not. One day, his uncle wrapped French fries around a pickle and popped it in his mouth. Grant wasn’t sure if it was a prank or not, but he decided to try the concoction—and it was delicious. Grant’s young mind couldn’t understand why it tasted good because it sounded gross. That’s when his uncle walked him through why it tasted good; starch, fat, acid, salt, and everything in between that balanced it out. [...]

The Wisdom of Nature

Last September, in a blog called The Nature of Nurture and the Nurture of Nature, I discussed a study in which Dr. Brian Dias from Emory University suggested that some biological information is inherited through chemical changes in our DNA. Called genomic imprinting, he inferred that memories of traumatic or stressful experiences could be passed on from our ancestors. For years it’s been known without a doubt that from generation to generation, the most important aspects of our genetic instruction are passed on through our DNA. In the last decade, however, through the science of epigenetics, it has also come [...]

Peering into the Universe’s Origins with the Webb Telescope

On April 24, 1990, astronomy changed for good when the Space Shuttle Discovery rocketed into space, carrying aboard it the Hubble Space Telescope. Hubble allowed us to look deep into space to see galaxies, not as we perceive them today, but as they were when the light we are perceiving escaped them—sometimes millions, sometimes billions of years ago. You can think of that light like a postcard traveling through the mail for a very, very long time. When it reaches us, it has a story to tell. Eventually, when Hubble’s peering eye reached the outer edge of its limit, the [...]

Accessing the Heart’s Intelligence

From ancient cultures to today, like a thread through the needle of time, the heart appears as a symbol and source of health, wisdom, and intuition. As a symbol, it transcends time, place, and culture, and it’s a commonly accepted that when we are connected to the heart’s inner knowing, it’s wisdom can be used as a source for love and higher, intelligent guidance. Beyond it’s obvious imperative in sustaining life, the heart is not simply a muscle or a physical pump that moves blood throughout our body, but an organ capable of influencing and directing one's emotions, morality, and [...]

The Magic of Intuition Is Not Magic

Have you ever wondered how it is that when you think of your friend on the other side of the world, seconds later they call or text? Or how a mother can sense her child is in distress when the child is at another location? When something like this occurs, there are three possibilities at play, the first being intuition. According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, intuition is defined as, “The power or faculty of attaining direct knowledge or cognition without evident rational thought and inference.” Another way to think of it is that this direct knowledge is essentially a [...]

Yoga: Good For the Body and the Brain

It’s commonly known that yoga is good for your body. Combining postures, breathing, and meditation, it only takes a few sessions to see how quickly it can tighten muscles, increase flexibility, and reduce stress. But what effects does yoga have on the brain? New research by Chantal Villemure and Catherine Bushnell of the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine in Bethesda, Maryland, suggest that it actually helps grow parts of your brain. To conduct the study, Villemure used MRI (magnetic resonance imagining) scans to compare people who regularly practiced yoga with control subjects. On average, the yogis involved in [...]

What does the spike in the Schumann resonance mean?

In 1952, German physicist and professor W.O. Schumann hypothesized there were measurable electromagnetic waves in the atmosphere that existed in the cavity (or space) between the surface of the earth and the ionosphere. According to NASA, the ionosphere is an abundant layer of electrons, ionized atoms, and molecules that stretches from approximately 30 miles above the surface of the earth to the edge of space, at about 600 miles. This dynamic region grows and shrinks (and further divides into sub-regions) based on solar conditions and is a critical link in the chain of Sun-Earth interactions. It’s this “celestial power station” [...]

United in Blooms of Consciousness

When you stare into a beautiful, expressive flower, it is very easy to understand how it is connected to all of nature. Originating in the unseen beneath the earth’s surface, the flower begins as the possibility of a seed. When environmental conditions such as water, temperature, oxygen, soil, and photosynthesis conspire, these conditions enable the seed to become a sprout. The sprout then grows into a bloom, which is the full expression of the flower as matter. It is nothing short of a miracle that a simple seed stored with so much potential ultimately becomes an expression of something so [...]

Reflections on last Sunday’s Project Coherence

On Sunday, January, 15th, from Lake Garda, Italy, we completed our third global meditation called Project Coherence. As we now know, there have been many studies on peace gatherings, resulting in the reduction of crime, violence, poverty, war, struggle, and strife, while at the same time increasing economic development. Participants from all over the world joined us in Project Coherence under the belief that consciousness has an effect on matter and the world—that we are more than just matter, bodies, and particles. Shortly after the meditation, I received a note from one of our students that I thought was a [...]
